Hall of Fame 2011
~ Wayne Billinger ~ Nancy Piatt ~ Carla Pruitt ~
Wayne Billinger is the recipient of the 2011 VAA Distinguished Alum Award. Wayne was the co-founder of the popular variety show Sweet & Sour Krauts as well as having been very active in the St. Fidelis Cathedral Choir. He also served an active role in local city government, being elected a couple of terms each as Hays City Commissioner and Mayor of Hays, as well as initiating the Northwest Kansas Mayors' Association. He is survived by a son, Michael, and a daughter, Kelsey.
Nancy Piatt moved to Victoria in 1983 and began teaching in Victoria that same year. She remained at Victoria through her retirement in 2008. During her time in Victoria, Nancy taught both at the high school and the middle school, teaching mostly English. She also served as sponsor of multiple groups and organizations. Nancy and her husband Bob have two sons, Christopher and Matthew. The Piatts also hosted three foreign exchange students, Jasmin Blum '04, Anita Ervinsdottir '05, and Greta Kaufeld '06.
Carla Pruitt began teaching in the Victoria schools in 1975 as a para-professional. In 1976 she began teaching physical education and health, and she continued in those fields until her retirement in 2006. Carla also spent time coaching the students of Victoria, being best known as the tennis coach. Carla was honored by being inducted into the Kansas Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006. Carla and her husband Don have two daughters, Alycia Pruitt Straight '93 and Amanda Pruitt Camara '98.
Hopefully you have been thinking about writing a letter of nomination for someone from the Victoria School System or one of our alumni that would be deserving of this award. If your nominee has not been selected, know that all letters are kept on file and they will again be eligible for Homecoming 2012.
